As someone who lives in Washington, this blanket reflects my deep appreciation for the Pacific Northwest. The verdant evergreen trees, the tranquility of misty mornings, and the refreshing crispness in the air create a peaceful atmosphere that I cherish. Whether you find yourself nestled in a rustic cabin or comfortably curled up on your couch, I sincerely hope this pattern evokes the same soothing sense of serenity that the Pacific Northwest inspires in me.

Materials You Will Need:

  • 11 skeins (for Larger Lapghan Size) or 16 skeins (for Throw Size) of Lion Brand Wool Ease yarn in Forest Green Heather, which is a #4 worsted weight yarn.
  • A US size J (6.0 mm) crochet hook
  • Optional: Stitch markers to help with your pattern (available through this link: Stitch markers)
  • Sharp scissors for cutting yarn
  • A tapestry needle for weaving in loose ends

Approximate Sizes: The blanket can be made in two sizes: 40 inches by 50 inches (Larger Lapghan) and 48 inches by 60 inches (Throw).

Remember to follow the key based on the type of blanket you are creating: (Larger Lapghan or Throw)

Gauge (for a 4-inch x 4-inch square): About 13 stitches and 12 rows.

Size Adjustments: If you want to adjust the width of your blanket, start with a longer or shorter chain, ensuring you maintain an even number of chains. Continue following the crochet pattern until your blanket reaches the desired size. Keep in mind your yarn requirements as you go about adjusting the blanket’s dimensions.

Important Pattern Notes:

  • The initial chain 1 does not count as a stitch in this pattern.
  • If you find it challenging to identify the first or last stitch of each row, using stitch markers can greatly help you keep track.
  • Due to the specific nature of the stitches utilized in this blanket, you may notice some curling at the corners. This is perfectly normal. As your blanket grows longer and heavier, the curling will decrease. After adding the border, my blanket did not curl at all. However, if you do observe slight curling, you may steam it gently with a steam iron or a clothing steamer to help it flatten out.

Common Abbreviations (US):

ch – chain
st(s) – stitch(es)
sl st – slip stitch
sc – single crochet
tr – triple crochet (also referred to as treble crochet): Yarn over twice, insert your hook into the specified stitch. Yarn over, pull through, leaving four loops on your hook. Yarn over and pull through the first two loops. Yarn over and pull through the next two. Yarn over and pull through the final two loops.

Evergreen Crochet Blanket Pattern Details

To begin, chain (130 for the larger size and 156 for the throw size).

Row 1: Insert 1 single crochet in the 2nd chain from the hook and continue with 1 single crochet in each chain across. Complete this row by chaining 1 and turning. (You should have 129 stitches for the larger size and 155 for the throw).

Rows 2-3: Insert 1 single crochet into the first stitch and continue across. At the end of the row, chain 1 and turn.

Row 4: Work 1 single crochet in the first stitch, then alternate with a triple crochet in the next stitch followed by a single crochet in the next stitch. Repeat this sequence across, finishing with a single crochet in the last stitch. Chain 1 and turn.

Rows 5-7: Insert 1 single crochet in the first stitch and continue across, completing with a chain 1 and turning at the end of each row.

Continue repeating rows 4-7 until your blanket reaches the desired length of 50 inches for the larger lapghan size or 60 inches for the throw size. Do not fasten off yet, as we will now add a beautiful border to your blanket.

Adding the Border

Round 1: With the yarn still attached, begin by chaining 1 and then single crocheting around the entire blanket. When reaching each corner, place 3 stitches in that corner to create a rounded effect. When you circle back to the starting corner, make sure to add another 3 stitches in that corner as well.

Note: It is common to have difficulty seeing your stitches while crocheting along the side edges. Focus on doing your best, as the stitch count is not crucial at this stage.

Round 2: Continue with single crochet around the whole blanket once more, remembering to place 3 stitches in each corner. Upon reaching your original starting point, once again place 3 stitches to secure the border, then slip stitch to the next stitch, fasten off, and weave in any loose ends.
