When stepping into a new home, there’s a sense of warmth, coziness, and the touch of something lovingly handcrafted that truly resonates. This is the essence that inspired the creation of the Housewarming Blanket. My aim was to design a throw that not only serves as the ideal gift for commemorating new beginnings but is also versatile enough to be offered for birthdays, holidays, or simply as a thoughtful surprise for no specific reason at all.

The Housewarming Blanket, with its stunning texture and comforting feel, is surprisingly easy to create. It features a calming one-row repeat pattern, making it the perfect project for those times when you want something enjoyable and straightforward to pick up and work on.
Housewarming Blanket Sizing Details
This blanket measures approximately 38” by 50”. However, you have the flexibility to make your version larger or smaller according to your preference. Just remember to chain in multiples of 2, and continue following the crochet instructions until you achieve your desired size.
To assist you further, I’ve compiled a blanket sizing guide that outlines various dimensions based on the type of blanket you may want to create.
Blanket Sizing Guide
- Baby Blanket: 36 x 36 inches
- Toddler Blanket: 40 x 60 inches
- Lapghan: 36 x 48 inches
- Throw Blanket: 48 x 60 inches
- Twin Bed: 65 x 90 inches
- Double Bed: 84 x 90 inches

Materials Needed:
- 9 skeins of Lion Brand Wool-Ease Yarn (#4 medium weight 197yd) in the color Arrowwood. The pattern requires approximately 1,773 yards.
- US-size I 5.5 mm and J 6.0 mm crochet hooks
- Stitch markers (optional)
- Scissors
- Tapestry needle
Approximate Size: 38” x 50”
Gauge (4in x 4in): Approximately 10 stitches and 11 rows
Size Adjustment: If you wish to modify the width of your blanket, start with a longer or shorter foundation chain, ensuring you chain in multiples of 2. Continue with the crochet pattern until your blanket reaches your desired size. Keep in mind your yarn requirements while making these adjustments.
Important Pattern Notes:
- The chain 2 at the beginning acts as a stitch. Make sure to complete the final half double crochet stitch into the turning chain, which is the top of the chain 2 from the previous row.
- The first row of the blanket should utilize a larger hook size (J hook) to help avoid any bunching. If you prefer not to switch hook sizes, be sure to keep your tension loose while working the first row.
Abbreviations (US):
ch – chain
st(s) – stitch(es)
hdc – half double crochet

Housewarming Blanket Pattern Instructions
To start, using the J hook, chain 96 stitches.
Row 1: Begin in the fourth chain from the hook. Work 1 half double crochet, followed by a chain 1, and then another half double crochet—all in the same chain. Next, skip the following chain, and in the next chain, work 1 half double crochet, chain 1, and 1 half double crochet (all in the same chain). Repeat this sequence until there are 2 chains left. To complete the row, skip the next chain and work 1 half double crochet in the last chain. Chain 2 and turn. (You should have 93 stitches.)
** For the following rows of the blanket, we will use the I hook.**
Row 2: Skip the next 2 stitches, and in the next chain space, work 1 half double crochet, chain 1, and 1 half double crochet (all in that same space). Continue this repetition until you reach the last half double crochet. To complete the row, skip the last half double crochet and work 1 half double crochet in the turning chain. Chain 2 and turn.
Continue repeating row 2 until your blanket reaches a length of 38 inches or your chosen length. Make sure to fasten off and weave in the ends of your yarn.
