Materials Needed:

  • Premier Parfait Chunky yarn, 131yds #6 Super Bulky in the following colors: Teddy Bear (brown), Toffee (light tan), and Yellow.
  • A small amount of black yarn for detailing the mouth.
  • A small amount of pink yarn for optional blush accents.
  • 25mm safety eyes (my eyes were sourced from the WildKCrochet Etsy shop, in the shade “Orange Zest.”)
  • US size J 6.0 mm crochet hook.
  • Poly-fil or alternative stuffing for filling.
  • Stitch marker to mark your rounds.
  • A 3” x 1.5” plastic or wooden dowel, if you prefer a sturdier corn dog stick (optional).
  • Scissors for cutting yarn.
  • A tapestry needle for weaving in ends.

Approximate Finished Size: 20 inches tall and 19 inches around.

Pattern Notes:

  • This pattern will be worked in continuous rounds. Do not join at the end of your rounds; this will help in preventing unsightly seams.

Make the Mustard (using yellow yarn)

To start, chain 45 stitches. Then, slip stitch into the second chain from the hook and continue with slip stitches in each chain across. Set this piece aside for later use.

Make the Corn Dog (begin with the Teddy Bear color)

To start, chain 2 stitches.

Round 1: Place 6 single crochets into the second chain from the hook. This brings you to a total of 6 stitches.

It is crucial to place your stitch marker in the first stitch of every round. This small step will greatly assist you in tracking when a new round begins.

Round 2: Increase in each stitch around, bringing your total to 12 stitches.

Round 3: Follow the sequence of *single crochet in one stitch, then increase in the next stitch*. Repeat this pattern around, resulting in 18 stitches.

Round 4: Continue by *single crocheting in the next two stitches, then increasing in the following stitch*. This will take your total to 24 stitches.

Round 5: Repeat the pattern of *single crocheting in the next three stitches, followed by an increase*. You should now have 30 stitches.

Round 6: *Single crochet in the next four stitches, then increase*. Continue this around, resulting in a total of 36 stitches.

Round 7: Now, shift to *single crocheting in the next five stitches and then increasing*. You will have 42 stitches when you complete this round.

Round 8: Expand further by *single crocheting in the next six stitches, followed by an increase*. You should reach 48 stitches at the end of this round.

Rounds 9-45: For these rounds, simply single crochet around, maintaining the total of 48 stitches throughout.

Round 46: Move into *single crocheting in the next six stitches, followed by a decrease*. This will bring you back down to 42 stitches.

Round 47: Continue with *single crocheting in the next five stitches, then decreasing*. You will now have 36 stitches.

It is now the time to add your safety eyes between the 19th and 20th rows of your work (I placed my eyes 9 stitches apart). You also have the option to add the mouth and blush at this stage.

For a touch of detail, I recommend crocheting the mustard onto your corn dog at this point. Alternatively, you can choose to sew the mustard on after the corn dog is fully complete if that suits your preference better.

Begin filling your corn dog with stuffing, adding more as you progress to ensure it remains plush and cuddly.

Round 48: Execute the pattern of *single crocheting in the next four stitches, then decrease*. You should arrive at a total of 30 stitches.

Round 49: Continue with *single crocheting in the next three stitches, followed by a decrease*. At the end of this round, there should be 24 stitches.

Round 50: Execute *single crochet in the next two stitches, then decrease*. This will leave you with 18 stitches.

Round 51: Perform the pattern of *single crochet, then decrease*. This will reduce your total down to 12 stitches.

Round 52: Finalize the shaping with *single crochet, then decrease*. You will finish with 8 stitches.

At this point, change colors to the “toffee” (light tan), and use this shade for the stick.

Rounds 53: In this round, single crochet around, keeping your total at 8 stitches.

Rounds 54-62: Continue to single crochet around, maintaining the same count of 8 stitches.

Be sure to firmly stuff the stick, sew the opening closed, and weave in any remaining yarn ends. Alternatively, if you desire a more substantial stick, you can replace the stuffing with a plastic or wooden dowel for added stability.
