The Painted Canyon Ripple Blanket has quickly become one of my absolute favorite crochet projects to undertake! For this delightful endeavor, I opted for Caron Macchiato Cakes yarn, which is incredibly soft to the touch and easy to manipulate. The muted earth tones of this yarn turn out beautifully with the ripple stitch, creating a visually stunning design that is both relaxing and eye-catching.

Getting used to this pattern may take a little time, especially if you are new to the ripple stitch. Initially, it can feel a bit tricky until you settle into your rhythm. I strongly encourage you to create a small practice swatch before diving into the actual blanket. This practice will make the entire process significantly smoother, as you will be familiar with the pattern’s nuances before you begin working on your blanket.

Once you get the hang of the stitch pattern, this blanket transforms into a wonderfully enjoyable and soothing project. It is perfect for working on while you unwind with your favorite shows or immerse yourself in an audiobook. The way the colors blend seamlessly is just delightful, and you will find yourself creating a cozy blanket that you will cherish. I truly hope you find as much joy in making it as I did!

Painted Canyon Ripple Blanket Sizing Notes

The Painted Canyon Ripple Blanket pattern comes with two distinct sizes: 36” x 48” for a Lapghan and 44” x 56” for a Smaller Throw. Below, you will find a blanket sizing guide that can help you select the perfect size for your project.

Blanket Sizing Guide

  • Baby Blanket: 36 x 36 inches
  • Toddler Blanket: 40 x 60 inches
  • Lapghan: 36 x 48 inches
  • Throw Blanket: 48 x 60 inches
  • Twin Bed: 65 x 90 inches
  • Double Bed: 84 x 90 inches

Materials:

Approximate Sizes: 36” x 48” (Lapghan) and 44” x 56” (Smaller Throw)

Make sure to follow the pattern key based on the size blanket you are crocheting: (Lapghan, Smaller Throw)

Gauge (4in x 4in): Approximately 16 stitches and 7 rows

Size Adjustment: To modify the width of your blanket, simply start with a longer or shorter chain. The pattern requires a chain multiple of 12 plus 3 additional stitches. If you want to change the size of your blanket, just make a chain in multiples of 12 and then add 3 stitches to that total. For instance, if you decide to chain 24, then you would add 3 stitches, bringing your total to 27.

Pattern Notes:

  • Remember that the chain 3 counts as a stitch. Be sure to complete those final two double crochet stitches into the turning chain (the top of the chain 3 from the previous row).
  • Once you reach Row 2, all stitches should be made in the back loop only.
  • I highly recommend creating a practice swatch to familiarize yourself with the pattern before beginning your blanket. For your swatch, chain 27 and follow the pattern as written.

Abbreviations (US):

ch – chain
st(s) – stitch(es)
dc – double crochet
dc2tog – double crochet two together, also known as a double crochet decrease
