If you are looking for a quick and easy project that will enhance your coffee table and impress your guests, the Classic Coaster is the perfect choice for you. The design features a round shape and a charming vintage aesthetic that will seamlessly fit into any decor style. You can complete one of these delightful coasters in approximately 15 minutes, making it an ideal project for both beginners and experienced crafters alike.

This lovely pattern utilizes cotton yarn, which not only ensures a stylish look but also provides excellent absorbency, allowing the coasters to soak up any drips and protect your surfaces effectively. While you can use acrylic yarn if it is more readily available to you, please note that the resulting coasters will not be as absorbent as those made with cotton.
Materials:
Size (approximate): 4.75 inches

Pattern Notes:
- Throughout the project, we will be working in continuous rounds for a seamless finish.
- Please remember that the chain 3 at the beginning of each round counts as a stitch in this pattern.
- If you find it helpful, consider placing a stitch marker in the top of the chain 3. This will assist you in identifying the chain 3 throughout the pattern and ensure accuracy.
- Should your coasters not lie flat, you can gently steam them with a steam iron (just be careful not to press the iron directly onto the coasters) or use a clothing steamer to help them flatten out. Personally, I usually skip this step, as the coasters tend to flatten nicely after a bit of use.
Abbreviations (US):
ch – chain
st(s) – stitch(es)

Classic Coaster Crochet Pattern
To get started, chain 4 and slip stitch into the first chain to join, forming a ring.
Round 1: Chain 3 (this will count as a double crochet now and for the entire pattern), then work 11 double crochets into the ring. Slip stitch to the top of the chain 3 to join, resulting in 12 stitches.
Round 2: Chain 3, then work 1 double crochet in the same stitch. Following that, work 2 double crochets in each stitch around. Slip stitch to the chain 3 to finish this round, yielding 24 stitches.
Round 3: Chain 3, work 2 double crochets in the same stitch, chain 1, skip the next stitch, and then *work 3 double crochets in the next stitch, chain 1, skip the next stitch.* Continue this pattern around until the last stitch where you will chain 1, skip the final stitch, and slip stitch to the top of the chain 3 to complete the round, resulting in 48 stitches.
Round 4: Chain 3, work 1 double crochet in the next stitch, and then work 1 double crochet in each stitch and chain 1 space around. Slip stitch to the top of the chain 3 to join, maintaining 48 stitches.
Round 5: Chain 1, work 1 single crochet in the next 5 stitches, then *increase by working 2 single crochets in the next stitch, and work 1 single crochet in the next 5 stitches.* Repeat from * to * around. Slip stitch to the chain 1. Finally, fasten off and weave in your ends to secure your work.
